About the Experience
Wrights Water Gardens
Wrights Water Gardens is located approx. 18 km from the Drury motorway exit, follow the signs to Waiuku and the turn off is about 8km from the Waiuku turn off.
There is a large car park and the entrance is well signposted with 2 stone lion statues each side of the gate, there are toilets and a café which has a lot of seating with an outside seating area looking over part of the gardens.
There are 2 entrances 1 that takes you on a walk around the different areas of the garden the path is not flat so a reasonable level of fitness would be needed as there are rustic steps in some places. The 2nd entrance can be opened by request and this takes you directly to the beautiful lower area and would be suitable for people who don’t walk to well.
This Garden is only open Thursday to Saturday and different species of waterlily bloom at different times of the season. The entrance fee is $8.00.
I really enjoyed my visit, everywhere you look there are surprises hidden in the foliage with statues and quirky objects in unexpected places. The waterlilies were beautiful with so many different varieties. There are a few seats around the gardens and dogs are welcome as long as you clean up after them and they are on a lead.
There is a waterlily plant nursery where you can purchase a plant for your garden pond.
The Red Shed 16 Jesmond Road Drury
The Red Shed is a Café with a difference it is situated a few km past the Drury off-ramp heading towards Pukekohe. It has inside and outside seating. The outside seating is in a shady courtyard amongst lovely seasonal plants.
The food is reasonably priced and the meals are very generous so if you are a small eater you could share.
There is plenty of parking either in front or behind and easy access for disabled customers and toilets with easy access.
From Thursday to Sunday there is a lovely Vintage store to the rear of the property with reasonably priced treasures and lovely friendly staff.
